Updates So Far
I have been working casually on this project for a while now (since mid October) and now I have decided to give it a bit more attention. Expect somewhat regular devlogs for now on, and here I whited this to enable anyone to catch up with how things went so far.
Premise:
"Building the simplest fun prototype I could come up
with at the time, then 'following the fun' from there
and seeing where it leads."
Concept:
Simple Cube (right now) is a game about a blue cube
that slides down a yellow pathway dodging red obstacles.
(Was I inspired by Dorothy and the wizard of Oz??)
PATCH NOTES:
Update 0.3.1:
Couldn't help myself not to work on a small feature after building for Web and before building for desktop. Sorry, web players will stay one or two days without:
- A dedicated credits button in the main menu
- Also renamed and organized a bunch of stuff inside the project. You can't really see it but know that I'll work a bit more efficiently now.
- Not Bug fixing... Surprised? I am.
Update 0.3.0:
I worked on it for a while without building so this patch included a lot of stuff:
- Did some overhaul on the colors. Still not all happy, but looks better.
- Switched Levels 2 and 3. I think the difficulty curve is a bit better, but level 4 is still way too difficult.
- Included a pause menu, accessible by pressing either P or ESCAPE.
- Included a starting cutscene. Trump was not happy about it.
- Included a level select menu on the main menu screen. Now you can go back directly to where you stopped.
- Made the cube turn red when hitting a red obstacle. You are one of them now.
- Added a button to the credits screen to go back to the main menu.
- Bug fixing...
Update 0.2.0:
Time to make it look like a game. Remade a lot of stuff:
- 4 levels, took a difficulty curve in mind but still not great at that.
- Included Balls in one of the levels, ain't them scary?
- Remade the initial building thing. before it looked like a castle and it was hard to pass through, now it's an easily recognizable arch
- Included place holder music and SFX from free to use websites.
- Fixed a mall drift that was happening in the slide. Was something to do with collision types.
- Bug fixing...
Update 0.1.1:
Some aesthetic changes:
- Commands displayed on menu screen
- Texts repositioning and re-dimensioning
- Texts and buttons re-collored to match each other
- Bug fixing...
Update 0.1.0
Implemented all the basic features, and some medium that
I just couldn't help myself not to include. Including:
- Forward Slide
- Side Movement (along with some polish)
- Jumping
- Obstacles
- Brick
- Creep (I just realized that does not mean "step")
- Bouncy ball (ready for use, but not included in A-1.0)
- Level Layout (for easy level making)
- 1 "Tutorial" Level
- Distance Traveled
- Game Over Screen with Level Restart (THEY GOT YOU)
- Start Menu
- End Screen with credits
